This Refund Policy sets out how returns and refunds are handled for purchases made through brakefreetech.eu. It forms part of our Terms of Sale and sits alongside your statutory rights under Dutch and EU consumer law — which always apply in full and are not limited by anything written below.
If you are a consumer resident in the EU, you have a statutory right under Art. 6:230o of the Dutch Civil Code (implementing the EU Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU) to withdraw from the contract within 14 days of the day you receive the product, without giving any reason.
To exercise this right, you must inform us of your decision to withdraw by a clear statement within the 14-day period. You may use the Model Withdrawal Form at the end of this policy, or simply email with subject line RETURN and your order number.
After withdrawal, you must return the goods to us without undue delay and in any event within 14 days of notifying us. You bear the direct cost of returning the goods.
On top of the statutory 14 days, we voluntarily offer two extended windows.
30-day return (unopened)
60-day Satisfaction Guarantee (tried and tested)
Both windows run from the delivery date, not the order date.
A restocking fee of up to 4% of the product price may be applied to returns processed under the voluntary 30-day or 60-day windows — for example on returns that arrive in heavily used condition, repeated returns by the same rider, or where the extra handling materially exceeds a standard return.
In practice we waive it most of the time. It exists as a safeguard against misuse of the extended guarantee, not as a default charge.
No restocking fee applies to:
Email with subject line RETURN — [your order number, e.g. #4321]. Tell us briefly which path you're taking (statutory 14-day, 30-day unopened, or 60-day guarantee).
You can also initiate a return directly from your Brake Free account if you have one.
We will reply within 1–2 business days with the return address and any country-specific instructions. You are responsible for return shipping and bear the risk of loss during shipment — we strongly recommend using a tracked, insured service that provides proof of delivery.
If you have a fitment issue or any other circumstance that sits outside the windows above, email before assuming we can't help. We look at these on an individual basis and do our best to find a workable outcome.
Once we receive the parcel and confirm its condition, we issue the refund to the original payment method. Under EU law we must refund within 14 days of being informed of the withdrawal; in practice we process within 3–5 business days of receiving the goods.
For withdrawals exercised within the statutory 14-day window, the refund includes the original standard delivery cost, as required by EU law. For returns initiated after the first 14 days (under the 30-day or 60-day extended windows we offer voluntarily), the refund covers the product price only.
Depending on your bank, funds may take an additional 3–5 business days to appear on your statement after we issue the refund.
If you have not received your refund after we have confirmed it was issued, please follow these steps:
If you've done all of this and still have not received your refund, email and we'll trace it from our side.
If the product comes back with missing or damaged components — the unused second mount, charging cable, packaging box — those items are treated as replacement parts and their individual cost is deducted from the refund. We use the same replacement-part pricing listed on our site, so there are no surprise numbers.
Everyday riding wear on the Brake Free light itself — scuffs, minor scratches, sun fade — does not count here. This only applies when something that should have come back with the original box contents is not there, or arrives in a state that makes it unusable for the next rider.
Under Dutch and EU law (Art. 6:230p BW), the right of withdrawal does not apply to:
Our standard product range is not made-to-order and not hygiene-sealed, so in practice the statutory exceptions rarely apply. Consumables (adhesive mounts, pads, straps) once opened or used are excluded from the 60-day Satisfaction Guarantee as set out above.
A pre-order means you are paying to reserve a unit that is not currently in stock, to be delivered on a later date. The payment is taken at the time you place the pre-order, the same as a regular transaction. Estimated delivery dates communicated at the time of pre-order are strictly indicative and may shift based on production, logistics, or customs factors outside our control. We communicate any material change by email.
Cancelling a pre-order. You may cancel a pre-order for a full refund of the product price for any reason within 30 calendar days of receiving your pre-order confirmation email. Once the pre-order has been fulfilled and delivered, the standard return windows in this policy apply.
The 2-year warranty against manufacturing defects runs in parallel with these return rights. A warranty claim is not a return — it covers defective product that we repair, replace, or refund at our discretion. For EU orders, the duties and taxes paid at checkout or on arrival are part of your refund under your statutory withdrawal right.
For UK (where duties are not pre-paid), Norway, Switzerland, and rest-of-world orders, import VAT and customs duty refunds are handled directly by the destination country's customs authority. We provide any paperwork you need to claim the refund from your local authority.
