Every Brake Free unit ships with both a Universal Mount and an XL Mount — most riders need nothing else. Shoei NXR2, RF-1400, and Z-8 owners require the type-specific Shoei mount, sold separately.
FAQ
Probably yes — Brake Free is compatible with >95% of motorcycle helmets currently available (as of May 2026).
Even if your exact model isn't listed in the Compatibility Lab, it is still very likely to be compatible. We regularly update the 'Compatibility Lab' with new entries for the ever-growing list of helmets, but if you want to be sure send us a 'Compatibility Check' through the contact form in our Help Desk section and we will give it to you straight.
Full-face, jet (open-face), adventure, touring, and flip-up/modular helmets. Any helmet with a typical rounded or lightly curved rear surface is usually compatible. If your helmet has a nice open backside, then it's likely to fit.
Diamond- and pyramid-shaped backsides are often a problem because the mount itself has a curved design to sit flush against common helmet shapes.
Not at all. The lab covers the most popular models but it's not exhaustive. Most unlisted helmets are fully compatible. Email us at mailus@brakefreetech.eu with your helmet brand, model, size, and a photo of the rear if you'd like confirmation before ordering.
Good to know — we offer FREE RETURNS for all EU purchases that prove to be physically impossible to mount. We rely on rider input to keep our compatibility list up-to-date.
It often fits well and can look like an integrated system but it's assessed case by case. The size of the spoiler is not so much important but the unit needs to sit under or in between so that it can be unmounted and the on/off switch remains accessible. Email us with your helmet model and a photo of the rear — we'll advise.
Yes, if all corners and more than 60% of the 3M foam adhesive contacts the helmet surface, the bond is secure. For bigger gaps and deeper ridges, contact us at mailus@brakefreetech.eu — we can supply additional 3M VHB strips to fill the gap.
The Shoei NXR2 /RF1400 'type-specific' mount — sold separately. It is engineered for the exact rear geometry of this helmet model. It adds both 'raise' to the unit, as well as corrects the angle so that the LEDs are most visible from the back. Best not to use the Universal or XL mount on this helmets.
No. That's where the additional mounts are for. Once bonded, the mount is fixed to that helmet. Removing it breaks the adhesive bond permanently. Order an additional mount for a second helmet.
No. The 3M VHB foam adhesive leaves practically no residue when removed. It does not compromise the helmet's structural integrity or safety rating, since the mount is made from intentionally soft plastic that will not create a point of pressure.
Clean the rear surface with the included alcohol wipe to remove grease and oils. Press the mount firmly for 60 seconds. Leave curing for 24 hours before riding.
